Match Report
Willand suffer home defeat by Bristol Manor Farm after yet another “game of two halves”!
Willand looked to be still suffering the hangover from their celebrations after the weekend victory at Slimbridge. They were very slow out the blocks and were caught napping in the third minute when a BMF cross from Kyle Tooze came into the box; the defence was caught flat footed only for Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist to come racing in and thump the ball into the host’s net. 0-1 and certainly not the start Rovers wanted.
BMF continued to apply pressure, with Willand unable to have any time on the ball. Wave after wave of BMF attacks paid dividends when on 26 minutes Tooze went on another rampaging run down the left wing: he breezed past Alfie Toland into the box and in frustration Alfie turned and pulled him back. Penalty! Ex-Willand player Owen Howe stepped up and blasted the ball straight down the middle. 0-2.
Manor Farm’s second goal seemed to jolt the Rovers players into life and they started to play the quick fire passing moves we’ve regularly seen this season. The first half closed out with us in ascendancy and starting to threaten Ben John in the BMF goal. Ht 0-2.
The second half started as the first half ended with Willand taking control of the game with wave after wave of attack. On 70 minutes Scott Piper was replaced by Louis Jagger Cane. LJC’s first touch came less than a minute later when he finished a sweeping attack down the right wing when he expertly half-volleyed past John. 1-2 and it was looking like we may get something out of the game.
As the half went on it became even more one-way traffic towards the BMF goal. The visitors were under immense pressure and were hacking clearances anywhere up field just to clear their lines. This was the story of the final 20 minutes; desperate defending by Farm, lots of pressure from Rovers, but the equaliser just evaded them.
Ft 1-2 … but the second half performance at least enabled the lads to walk away with their heads held high and be able to look forward positively to the match on Saturday when we host Mangotsfield United.
