Today the Ladies hosted Torquay 2nd's in their first league game of the season!
What a game it was! End to end stuff with goals galore and some brilliant play from both teams.
Shaldon started the stronger and had the control of the game for the most part, troubling the back line of Torquay from the kick off!
Both teams grew in confidence and started playing some great football, with Torquay scoring first, but Shaldon were quick to respond.
At one point the Ladies were leading 3-2 after a fantastic brace from new signing Lauryn Smith and a calm and collected penalty from striker Claire Jones. Torquay then got back in to it to make it 3-3.
The game then became quite dogged close to the final whistle, with both teams scrapping for possession and the win.
Unfortunately for Shaldon, Torquay snatched a goal right at the death to win the game 4-3.
Shaldon left everything on the pitch, and gave 110% throughout the whole game, unfortunately some things are just not meant to be. Shaldon hit the woodwork a total of 4 times throughout the game and also missed a couple of good chances. On another day they could have had 6 or 7!
The management and coaching team had nothing but praise for the team at the final whistle. They could see that every lady gave their all and left everything out there, which showed when they awarded the man of the match to the whole team!!
This is such an exciting time to be a part of Shaldon Villa Ladies. The team is going from strength to strength, and to look at them at the end of this game, you wouldn't know they had lost. The camaraderie and positivity was fantastic, and if they keep up this work rate and these levels, they are going to be a thorn in the side to many teams in this league.
The Ladies next game is this coming Sunday, where they host Lakeside in the cup.
All support is welcome!
