From the Bridgwater Mercury:
Bridgwater United advance in the Women's FA Cup
BRIDGWATER United Women have advanced into the Third Round of the Women's FA Cup after defeating Chichester & Selsey 0-3 on the weekend.
In the away match for Bridgwater, the women were dominant throughout and the better side on the day.
Goals in the game came through, Sydney Hinchcliffe with two and Amy Goddard.
In the next round of the competition, Bridgwater will face Crystal Palace at Fairfax Park on Sunday December 12, kick off time 2pm.
It will be a tough match for Bridgwater with Crystal Palace currently sitting in third place in the FA Women’s Championship, the division above them.
The game against Chichester was a good showing for Bridgwater, and in the early stages they created a number of chances.
Both sides took some time working into the game and the first big chance came in the 18th minute from a Bridgwater corner.
The ball was whipped in and was met by a Bridgwater player's head only to go inches wide.
Chichester had a chance from a corner themselves in the 25th minute; after some chaos in the box the ball was eventually cleared but it was a scare for the visitors.
In the 27th minute Bridgwater were forced into a substitution; Chloe Wilson was replaced by Sydney Hinchcliffe through injury.
Later in the first half Leah Burridge unleashed a great shot which forced a great save from the Chichester keeper.
With that though it was half time and the scores remained level at 0-0.
However in the second period Bridgwater were able to capitalise on the dominance in possession and turn the game in their favour.
During the break Banfield was replaced by Bow Jackson in another substitution and she went on to have a solid half.
Then in the 51st minute Sydney Hinchcliffe gave her side the lead after she turned home a cross from Turner, a goal straight from the training ground.
From there all the action was in Bridgwater's favour and it wasn't long until it was 0-2 to them.
In the 59th minute Hinchcliffe grabbed her second goal and put her side well and truly in to the driving seat in the match.
There was more chances for both sides after that point, and in fairness to the home team they kept pushing for a goal to help gain back some momentum.
However Bridgwater were confident at this point and were constantly pushing on to extend the lead.
Ellie Strippel was replaced in the 80th minute by Laura Holden, who scored in the previous round.
Finally in the midst of added time Amy Goddard continued her form in front of goal when she scored Bridgwater's third goal of the afternoon.
As fans have come to expect from Amy, this goal came from another quality header which beat the opposition goalkeeper well.
Overall it was a very solid performance for Bridgwater and adds to the belief in the squad that they can mount a long FA Cup run.
In league action, Bridgwater are away to Hounslow on December 5, kick off is 2pm.
Currently Bridgwater are fourth in the FA Women's National League Southern Premier having won six of their opening ten matches.
If the people of Bridgwater are looking for a high quality level of women's football to watch then they should head down to Fairfax Park for the women's teams next home game.
