Match Report

Willand win convincingly at Barnstaple Town.

Willand were pleased to welcome old boy Tom Bath into their starting line-up for their trip to North Devon. Tom has signed on-loan for one month from our friends at Plymouth Parkway.

Willand started brightly even though conditions were difficult with a gale force wind blowing and the pitch heavy following torrential rain the day before.

Rovers looked composed and were stretching the home defence with moves down both flanks; Will Richards looked particularly threatening with his surging runs down the left, Archie Reay was looking commanding in midfield and with Josh Searle & Louis J-C linking well down the right the hosts were being run ragged.

The first half continued in this vein, Rovers having a lot of possession but not really creating any clear-cut chances and the hosts relying on occasional counter attacks, but again not threating the Willand goal.

On 40 minutes another Willand attack down the right saw the ball work its way to Louis J-C, he drove forward & cut inside to strike a sublime shot from 20 yards that dipped just under the crossbar and beyond the reach of Jack Arthur in the Barnstaple goal. 0-1 at half-time.

Willand had the wind behind them for the second half and it took just 7 minutes before they added their second: good work in midfield, ball though to Tom Bath who controlled well and slotted the ball to Ben Griffith who raced through and shot calmy past Arthur. 0-2 and Rovers totally in control.

Barnstaple were now looking tired and despondent as Willand continued to pressurise the hosts back four. On 75 minutes another good move by the visitors set Louis J-C free and as he moved into the box he was tripped. Penalty! Louis dusted himself down to take the spot kick, blasting the ball past Arthur. 0-3.

80 minutes: Bailey Kempster won the ball in midfield, just inside the Barrum half; he raced forward on a mazy run leaving the home defenders in his wake and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing Arthur. 0-4, job done!

The only downside was in the 92nd minute Noah Coppin received a red card for pushing a defender after a clash near the touchline.

A good day for Rovers in difficult conditions. Sets us up nicely for the busy schedule of games coming up in the run-up to Christmas.
