REPORT | WEYMOUTH 1-0 SPITFIRES
Eastleigh made it six games without a win in the Vanarama National League after a 0-1 defeat away to Weymouth.
Brandon Goodship scored the only goal of the game after a splendid piece of team play, meaning the loss for the Spitfires leaves them 14th in the league.
The first big chance for the away side came after just seven minutes, Jake Hesketh lofted the ball into the penalty area only for Tyrone Barnett to volley it over the bar.
Tom Broadbent almost gave Eastleigh the lead with his headed effort from yards out, but was directed straight at Ross Fitzsimons in goal.
Ten minutes before half time, Weymouth broke away where Ahkeem Rose made an ambitious effort from the edge of the box that was saved comfortably by McDonnell.
The Spitfires keeper was needed moments later, saving a Goodship shot to keep the scores level going into the break.
There was a penalty shout for the visitors straight after the restart as Vincent Harper appeared to be brought down in the penalty area, but referee Jacob Miles saw nothing of it.
Tjay De Barr almost finished off a world class piece of play at 58 minutes, turning his defender but putting the ball into the side netting.
Former spitfires player Tom Blair made a long range effort with 25 minutes remaining where the Eastleigh keeper made another simple save.
Just moments later after a mazy run, Blair came inches away from giving the home side the lead, as his effort sailed just past the left hand post.
Weymouth did take the lead after a flowing team move ended with Goodship striking home in the 70th minute.
Despite threatening with spells of possession in the closing stages, the Spitfires couldn’t muster an equalising goal and left the Bob Lucas Stadium empty handed
