Blackpool 1 AFC Bournemouth 2

Report: Blackpool 1 Bournemouth 2

Blackpool suffered their first league defeat of 2022 in heartbreaking style, as two late goals from Bournemouth they snatched all three points at Bloomfield Road.

The Seasiders took the lead with an incredible strike from Josh Bowler in the first half, and battled hard throughout, but two late goals from Jamal Lowe and Siriki Dembele ensured the visitors took all three points.

CJ Hamilton had an effort on goal just after ten minutes, but the angle was against him and it was easily held by Travers in the Bournemouth goal.

Bournemouth were having a good spell of possession early on, and won a penalty just before the half hour mark, after Jordan Gabriel was adjudged to have brought down a Bournemouth man in the penalty area during a corner.

Dominic Solanke took the penalty with a stuttering run up, and Dan Grimshaw dived low to his left and kept the ball out of the net.

Despite looking comfortable in possession, Blackpool still posed a huge threat for the visitors on the break and took the lead on 35 minutes thanks to a sensational first-time strike from Josh Bowler.

Callum Connolly did brilliantly to bomb forward from the middle of the park with the ball, but a tackle from a Bournemouth man allowed ball to bounce in front of Josh Bowler. The winger hit the ball first time from outside the area, and it curled superbly over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Blackpool did brilliantly in the first half to nullify Bournemouth's threat and took a slender lead into the interval.

Blackpool were looking to extend their lead further early in the second half. Jordan Gabriel played a lovely ball through the legs of a Bournemouth defender on 50 minutes to play through Josh Bowler. Bowler then played a low ball into the box, but CJ Hamilton just couldn't reach it at the back post.

Mark Travers then made a super diving save for Bournemouth moments later, as Josh Bowler fired a first time shot at goal after Gary Madine teed him up well, but Travers dived high to his left to tip it behind for a corner which came to nothing.

CJ Hamilton thought he'd doubled the lead with a little over 20 minutes remaining, with a sensational half volley. A corner was whipped in, it was headed clear and Hamilton hit the clearance first time on the edge of the area, with the ball smacking against the crossbar and bounced clear.

Despite a real battling performance from the Seasiders, all three points were snatched away from them in the last five minutes. The equaliser came on 88 minutes through Jamal Lowe who turned in a cross from the left, before Siriki Dembele won it in additional time with close finish after cutting inside on his left following a goal mouth scramble.

A difficult one to take for Blackpool, who more than matched their opponents on the day, as the Seasiders suffer their first defeat of the year,

Full-time: Blackpool 1 Bournemouth 2
