London Bees 0 - 3 Bridgwater United
After the game was called off last weekend following the Storms that hit South West, United traveled to the capital to face London Bees for the first time this season.
Right from the off Bridgwater looked to cause a threat to the home side as Sydney Hinchcliffe, who returned to the starting line up, had an effort unfortunately hit the post.
Only a few minutes later, Hinchcliffe who was proving to be a handful for the Bees defence thought she had broken the deadlock when she found the back of the net only for her effort to be ruled out when the offside flag was raised by the official.
The strong breeze at The Hive made for difficult decisions in the first half half as both teams looked to get a foothold in the game.
With five minutes to go in the first half, Ellie Strippel was brought on for Wilson-White who wasn’t able to continue. The teams went in all square at the break.
Bees started the brighter and almost pulled ahead however Beth Howard bravely claimed the ball in a crowded box.
With United on a quick breakaway midfielder Laura Holden was brought down after a dangerous tackle and was in a lot of pain. Luckily though she was able to get continue playing following a lengthy stoppage.
The response to the tackle, Bridgy livened up and began to put in a strong performance. Holly Chandler tried her luck from distance at hit the bar and looked sneakingly close to crossing the line.
On the sixty-fourth minute Strippel was able to get United on the front foot. Potts found space in midfield and her incisive ball to Strippel meant she only had the keeper to beat.
Another substitute Dudley-Jones was lively out wide and again on the breakaway found herself clean through to double the United advantage.
Bridgwater then defended a free kick in added time which Chandler headed out to Ellie Strippel who slipped the ball to Markham, when it would have been easy for the attacker to go it alone, and Markham was then able to slot it home in order for United to get a comfortable win.
Next up Bridgwater face Keynsham away next week where we will be hoping to grab another win before a tough game against Ipswich on the Sunday at Fairfax Park.
Manager, Adam Murry was delighted at the result but knows there is more to come from this group, “The squad had a heavy week in training in prep for a busy month of matches and it showed in the first half as we took 45 minutes to get going. We were very accomplished in the second half though, we were calmer in possession and played forward with pace and accuracy. We have struggled to find goals lately so it was nice to see our forwards click and our midfield provide the service that has been lacking this season.
It is a big month of fixtures for the team and we need your support at Fairfax Park to continue to push towards finishing as high up the table as we can.”
