Keynsham Town 0 Bridgwater United 2

MATCH REPORT: KEYNSHAM TOWN (A)

Keynsham Town 0 - 2 Bridgwater United

Bridgwater United kept up winning ways on Thursday evening with a convincing performance against Keynsham Town at the AJN Stadium.

United were forced to change their squad from Sunday’s win over London Bees with Jackson, and Wilson-White being replaced by Under 21 players Faith Bedford and Jennie Habit who would both go on to make their debut alongside Danni Tyson, as Ellie Strippel and Meesha Dudley-Jones returned to the starting 11.

After a frantic start and United beginning to exert pressure on the Keynsham defence and failure of half of the floodlights right before a Bridgy corner, led to a lengthy stoppage while players and staff awaited their return. The long awaited corner should have given Bridgy the lead but Amy Goddard couldn’t direct her header towards the goal.

Further set-pieces evaded Goddard, whilst the Bridgy attack had shots saved by the ‘keeper, but the combinations kept coming as United looked to be clicking across the park.

The ball was being moved around by Bridgwater exceptionally well and thoroughly deserved their opener after a series of passages of play that saw United come close but failed to get the end product. They did however on the 45th minute.  Holly Chandler was released down the left who expert ball across the box found Hinchcliffe with time and space to convert from 12 yards out.

Minutes later it should have been two nil to United at half-time when it seemed only possible to knock the ball in from a couple of yards out, Dudley-Jones agonisingly flicked over at the back post.

It was a bright start to the second half as first Dudley-Jones stung the palms of the goalie before Hinchcliffe failed to direct the rebound on target.

On the hour mark the game began to fragment slightly as the game opened up but United were never in danger and looked to consolidate the result as Dudley-Jones and Strippel made way for Daisy Ackerman and Jenna Markham.

It was Ackerman who sealed the points with her first goal for United. The wide player converted from a bursting run at the back post from Sydney Hinchcliffe’s cross.

Kevin Braybrook, United co-manager, said “There were moments today that showed the calibre of this group of players. We moved the ball terrifically and showed our class. Now it’s about translating that into the matches against teams at the top end of this league.”

“To see 3 of the 10 young and incredibly talented players from our U21s feature tonight is another incredibly proud moment as progressing our youth is our vision.

The remarkable rise of this programme demonstrates the power of dual-career opportunities there are out there for young footballers to have a platform to develop their game whilst study with our partners Bridgwater & Taunton College. The squad under Rob, Dean, Luke, and Rosie have been brilliant on both a league and college competition level putting the programme on the map as one of the best in the country for giving players the opportunity to come through our U21s and on to first team football, unlike some where player’s are stuck at U21. It is a solid pathway gaining real success.” said Adam Murry, CEO.
