Bridgwater United 0 Ipswich Town 1

MATCH REPORT: IPSWICH TOWN (H)

Bridgwater United 0 - 1 Ipswich Town

Bridgwater United suffered an agonising loss in a game controlled by defences.

United started brightly, Jenna Markham, continued her fine form and looked energetic and dynamic and caused the Ipswich defence a headache all game.

United should taken the lead in the ninth minute when a square ball into the box found Sydney Hinchcliffe with time and space but she lashed the ball high over the bar.

The game flowed end to end but the back lines of both teams were comfortably handling all that was put in front of them.

After a couple of shots from distance, Ipswich broke the deadlock on the half hour mark. United had chances to clear the danger but Thomas broke clean through to smash into the net and break the deadlock.

Bridgwater continued to control large majority of play but the final product continues to be blunt in the Bridgy attack.

Laura Holden’s free kick from distance almost dropped over the top of Quantrill but it skipped down the wrong side of the back of the net.

The second half was more of the same with United in control of the majority of possession but as Ipswich sat back it was a difficult task to breakdown one of the league’s top sides.

United brought Chloe Gilroy, and Meesha Dudley-Jones into the action to increase the United threat to no real avail. Bow Jackson had the best opportunity from the edge of the box but it failed to trouble the ‘keeper.

Co-manager, Adam Murrry said, “Today is disappointing but also positive as we controlled the game looked a threat at times and solid defensively. That’s a real platform to build on as we continue to go forward.”

Who’s next? United are away against league contenders Southampton WFC on Sunday 13th March, 2pm.
