📝 REPORT: LEWES FC WOMEN 0-3 BRISTOL CITY WOMEN
SUNDAY, MARCH 6TH 2022
Three second-half goals secured the Robins all three points against Lewes FC Women at The Dripping Pan.
A Ffion Morgan brace and a late goal from Abi Harrison ensured City stayed second in the FA Women's Championship ahead of next Sunday's visit by Watford to the Robins High Performance Centre.
🧐 BACKGROUND
Head Coach Lauren Smith named an unchanged side to the team that beat London City Lionesses 3-2 away from home in the Robins' last outing as they looked to make it four wins on the bounce against the Rooks.
Satara Murray came back into the squad and on to the bench after recovering from injury.
✍️ WHAT HAPPENED?
The hosts started the game strong with their striker looking to run through on goal in the fifth minute but Brooke Aspin was there to clear the danger.
Minutes later Fran Bentley was called into action when The Rooks had a shot from just inside the box and the Robins keeper was there to save.
Lewes found space on the right not long after but Aspin was there to make the challenge and clear the danger again for the visitors.
The Robins' first real chance fell to Aspin when Chloe Bull delivered a great ball in from the right but the16-year-old's header was well saved by the Lewes keeper.
The hosts hit the bar just after the half-hour mark with a shot from the left and the ball was eventually cleared.
City had a great chance to open the scoring when Lia Cataldo found Morgan with a diagonal ball and the midfielder headed it towards Chloe Bull who couldn't quite get on the end of it.
Lewes were inches away from making it 1-0 just before half-time but the shot from a resulting corner was just wide.
⏱ HALF-TIME
Aggie Beever-Jones won her side a free-kick 10 minutes into the second half and Aimee Palmer was there to deliver but the Lewes defenders were there to clear off the line.
Murray drove forward after being played through on goal by Harrison but yet again the hosts were back quick to clear.
The Rooks looked to play a ball over the top just after the hour-mark but Naomi Layzell got back to collect and play out to her team-mates.
In-form Harrison struck the ball from distance minutes later but her shot sailed over the bar and out for a goal-kick.
Morgan was there to break the deadlock in the 69th minute when Cataldo threw the ball to City's No 24 on the left and the Welsh international drove into the box and unleashed a shot past the Lewes keeper.
Eleven minutes later Morgan was there again to bag her brace as her shot from 25 yards found the back of the net.
Harrison looked to get on the scoresheet as she attempted to chip the keeper who read the danger and was there to catch the ball.
In the dying minutes Harrison got her inevitable goal when her pressure on the keeper paid off as she won the ball and netted her 17th of the season.
