Womens F.A.Cup Final 2020/21

Match report: Arsenal Women 0-3 Chelsea

WHAT HAPPENED

We suffered a disappointing defeat in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final on Sunday as we were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

Jonas Eidevall was hoping to secure his first piece of silverware  as head coach since joining the club in the summer - but we were ultimately unable to handle Chelsea’s aggressive and clinical frontline.

After making an uncharacteristically sloppy to the game, Fran Kirby wasted no time in punishing us for our mistakes, pouncing on a wayward back pass and racing through on goal before finishing past Manuela Zinsberger.

It was the worst possible start and we failed to react afterwards too, allowing Chelsea to dominate the midfield and continually exploit the space behind our back four.

Zinsberger went on to make a number of outstanding saves to deny Kirby her second of the afternoon, but that was one of the only positives from an otherwise disappointing first-half performance.

We stepped things up after the restart as we pushed further forward and placed Chelsea’s back line under some early pressure, only for Sam Kerr to break free on the counter alone and double their advantage with a driven finish at the near post.

Kerr then went on to double her tally late on with a dinked effort over Zinsberger, bringing an end to a frustrating afternoon for Eidevall’s side.

WHAT'S NEXT

We must now turn out attention to our UEFA Women's Champions League clash with FC Barcelona on Thursday night.
