Weymouth just edged through in a hard-fought game to complete the double over us and climb to within 3 points, whilst we stayed in 4th.position in a fascinating battle for the play-offs which looks likely to go “down to the wire” . Meanwhile form team Frome, who were in a relegation position not long ago, pulled off a draw at Redditch to damage their title aspirations in this ever-changing league table.
We started well and soon put the visitors under pressure who cleared the ball off the line on two occasions as we pressed hard for that vital first goal, but Weymouth also went close when Ben Thompson shot across the face of the goal from a narrow angle and Paul Strudley pulled off a point-blank save to deny Jordan Copp. The game continued at a furious pace and we hit the woodwork and a long lob bounced off the top of the bar as Weymouth threatened to take the lead.
The result was decided by the only goal 5 minutes after the restart when the visitors broke away from their own penalty area and Chris Shepard’s cross from the left was forced in by the veteran Tim Sills, who had just come on as a substitute. We made a triple substitution in an effort to save the game but all too often our passes were cut out by ta resolute Terras defence. A good cross from Garyn Preen was flicked wide and a long throw by James Rusby went for a corner as we tried desperately to salvage a point, but the Weymouth defence held firm and just about deserved the points.
Team;Strudley, Horgan, Tyler, Rusby, Day, Rees, Clark(Preen), Herring, Brown, Draycott(Goodger)O,’Brien((Jarvis). Subs;Jones, John.
