Portsmouth 0 Bridgwater United Women 2

From the Bridgwater website:

Portsmouth 0 - 2 Bridgwater United

United got 3 points on the road after a great team performance and goal from Wilson and Dudley-Jones.

It was a good day for Bridgwater United all round. The under 21s managed to beat Portsmouth’s development team 3-0 followed by the first team winning 2-0!

One change was made from the midweek game against Keynsham. Jasmine Turner came in for Sydney Hinchcliffe and Keeley Banfield made it onto the bench.

In the early stages of the game Pompey saw quite a bit of the ball. They were able to get in and around the box however Bridgwater stopped them from being able to take a shot.

At times throughout the first half Bridgwater enjoyed spells of the ball. Strippel tried her luck early on but unfortunately it was wide. On the 43rd minute Leah Burridge had a shot but the Portsmouth keeper comfortably saved it.

It seemed as though it was going to be goalless at half time but Poppy Wilson managed to find the back of the net and gave United the lead at half time.

Portsmouth had the first big chance of the second half when former player Shannon Albuery’s cross rattled the crossbar. Bridgwater were able to clear it out for a corner.

Both teams in the second half had spells of possession. Burridge tried one of her long range shots and got Bridgwater a corner.

It was smiles all round on the 68th minute when Dudley-Jones tapped the ball home and got her first goal of the season.

In the latter parts of the game United had periods where they had defensive work to do. Pompey hit the woodwork and applied a bit of pressure but Bridgwater stuck together well and took the 3 points home.
