Match Report

Willand pick up 3 points at Evesham after 4-1 win.

In wet and windy conditions at the Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium Rovers managed to master the difficult conditions better than the hosts and came away with an impressive 4-1 victory.

This didn’t look a likely outcome during the first 15 minutes though. The hosts came out the traps quickly and were creating problems for the visitors defence with a number of raids. Two glorious opportunities were spurned in this period that ultimately came back to haunt Evesham.

20 minutes in and Willand started to get into their rhythm: Mani Skett & Bailey Kempster started linking up well down the left, with Josh Searle and Noah Coppin similarly working well on the right. The always impressive Will Richard was a continual thorn in the host’s side with pacey direct driving runs from midfield into the heart of the home defence causing problem after problem for them.

On 33 minutes yet another surging run and shot by the Willand attack resulted in a penalty after the referee spotted a hand blocking a goal-bound shot. The penalty was confidently despatched by Mani Skett. 0-1.

Just three minutes later a mix up in the home defence left the goalkeeper stranded outside his box, the ball fell to Will Richard who calmly lobbed the ball over the goalie, out of the reach of a diving defender and into the empty net. 0-2 and Rovers well on top.

The half closed with another sublime Willand attack: Mani was found in space on the left he cut inside and shot as the keeper came racing out towards him. The shot beat the keeper but went just wide of the post.

Ht 0-2.

The second half started as the first half finished with Rovers well on top and looking dangerous ever time they attacked, with the hosts just relying on the occasional counter attack.

On 70 minutes the game was closed out when Ryan Guppy slotted home from a corner after the ball had pin-balled around in the Evesham area. 0-3.

On 88 minutes Evesham pulled a consolation goal back, as debutant Michael Symons finished well after the ball was squared from the right wing. 1-3.

Straight from the restart Willand embarked on another rampaging attack, Mitch McCann picking up a clearance on the half-way line and surging forward before threading a perfectly weighted pass through to Ben Griffith who blasted the ball past the home keeper. 1-4.

Ft 1-4.
