Teignmouth 1 Shaldon Villa Ladies 3

What a game of football we had this afternoon! 90 minutes of real battling and some great play in the sunshine, who would have thought it was October!?

Shaldon were looking to bounce back after suffering narrow defeats in their first 2 games of the season, and wanted to show what they could do and how much they'd improved since last season, and where better to do that than at the home of local rivals and league newcomers Teignmouth.
The game started quick, with both teams trying to find their rhythm and assert dominance, with Shaldon coming out on top, as they did for most of the game.
The hard work paid off towards the end of the 1st half when Rosh weaved her way past defenders and rocketed an effort at the Teignmouth goalkeeper, who couldn't keep a hold of it and it found its way in to the back of the net! 1-0!
The second half started much the same as the 1st, both teams having spells of possession, with quite a few shots on goal for Shaldon, whilst our keeper remained mostly untroubled.
The ball then found its way out to the right flank, and new signing Niamh floated a fantastic pinpoint cross in to the box, which Lauryn gladly met and guided in to the back of net with a lovely header. 2-0!
Against the run of play, Shaldon switched off at the back, which resulted in Teignmouth capitalising and slotting the ball in to the net. 2-1!
Shaldon had previously given leads away in the dying moments of the game, and they were determined not to do the same this week, so they dug deep, utilised their subs bench well and then found themselves with the opportunity to put the game to bed when Josie, a returning player from a couple of years ago, sent a brilliant ball over the top for Lauryn to chase, which she did fantastically and slotted the ball away for her 2nd of the game! 3-1!
It was then just about game management for the Shaldon Ladies, and with the help of the very vocal subs bench and wonderful travelling supporters they dug deep and saw the game out to the final whistle!
What a fantastic advert for women's football, both team's gave everything on the pitch.
Shaldon are so excited to finally get their first 3 points of the season! And will now look to build on this in their next game!
A huge thank you to Teignmouth for their hospitality and also to all of the supporters of both sides for creating such a great atmosphere.
Up the Villa!
