Exmouth Town march on in FA Cup after superb away win

Exmouth Town recorded an outstanding 2-1 success when they travelled to fellow Toolstation Western League outfit Buckland Athletic to contest an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie.

Buckland, who had won both their opening league games, played over the course of the previous seven days – scoring 10 goals with victory at Bridgwater United followed by a 6-1 midweek mauling of Wellington, would have gone into the tie at their Homers Heath home as slight favourites,

However, after an Ace High goal – the assist for the high effort was some more class from Aaron Denny – Buckland levelled only for James Richards to net the winner in the second half.

As well as a place in the next round, Town also bank a cheque for £1,125 for their efforts at Buckland.

Town will now entertain Southern League Division One South side Bristol Manor Farm in the Preliminary Round with the tie set to be played at Southern Road on Saturday, August 21.

As well as looking to book a berth in the first qualifying round of the 2021/22 FA Cup, Town will be also looking to earn the cheque for  £1,444 that goes to the preliminary round winners. The losers in the Town versus Manor Farm game will bank £481.

Town are back in action this coming Wednesday (August 11) when they entertain Wellington in a Toolstation Western League encounter.
