Non League Finals Day 2019-20

So COVID has caused a dramatic delay in the fixtures and today, Monday 3rd May, was the day that the two main non league competitions reached their conclusions. It is for days like these that I live and my day has been extremely enjoyable.

At 1PM the F.A.Vase final started and Consett took the lead twice in the first half only to concede a goal minutes later, so 1-0 became 1-1 very quickly and 2-1 became 2-2 equally fast. The first half of this match was very open and entertaining with some excellent strikes.

In the second half Hebburn controlled more of the game and eventually scored the winner in a 3-2 contest. The remarkable thing about this win is that they are also in this year's competition and if they can beat Warrington Rylands on saturday they will be back at Wembley for another final.

At 5PM there was the prospect of a unique moment in football history. If Harrogate Town could win the match they would be the only Football League team to win the F.A.Trophy. They earned promotion while qualifying for the final and now reside in League Two. Concord Rangers from my old stomping grounds in Essex were the opposition from the National League South.

The first half was an even(ish) contest. Harrogate had most of the ball but every move was well defended and Concord even made a couple of chances of their own. In the second half superior fitness started to show and Harrogate were clearly the better team winning most of the contests and passing far more accurately. The frustrating thing for me was that Concord could not string three passes together.

The results at the end of the day:

F.A.VASE 2019-20

Hebburn Town 3 Consett 2

F.A.TROPHY 2019-20

Harrogate Town 1 Concord Rangers 0

Non league finals day is a great day for the real football fans. I highly recommend it.

..... and there is another one coming up later this month.
