From the Bridgwater website:
Bridgwater United 4 - 0 Keynsham Town
United started 2022 off in the best way possible after putting 4 goals past Keynsham sending them through to the final of the Somerset Cup
Chandler made her debut for the club and had a great game on the left hand side whilst Georgia Evans also came into the side for the first time since resigning!
Captain Leah Burridge held the team together in the middle and Bridgy had Dudley-Jones up front.
Early on it was Bridgwater who were seeing most of the ball. Dudley-Jones found herself able to cross the ball into the box in an attempt to find Holden but Keynsham managed to clear it.
On the fourteenth minute Leah Burridge grabbed her first of the afternoon which Bridgwater deserved after seeing a lot of the ball.
After Burridge’s goal Bridgy seemed to pick up the tempo more and looked to be more of a threat to the opposition.
Countless opportunities came along for the home side after the first goal. Ellie Strippel sent in a promising ball but Keynsham’s keeper comfortably denied anyone from getting on the end of it.
Once again Strippel tried to make something happen when she laid the ball off to Burridge but her attempt on goal was unfortunately wide.
However the away side also had their fair share of opportunities. At times they got the ball into the box however Bridgwater’s defence, who have been solid all season, dealt with anything that came their way.
On the half hour mark Howard had to pull out a save when Keysham tried to equalise.
Not long before half time Emily Wilson-White used her pace and got herself into a good position to take a shot however it wasn’t enough to challenge the keeper. After forty five minutes Bridgwater had a one goal lead.
The second half brought more goals for the home side which will be a real confidence boost ahead of league action next weekend.
Six minutes into the second half and Dudley-Jones found herself on the score sheet after Strippel sent a ball in which found her and she then made no mistake dinking it over the keeper.
With half an hour to go United still looked dangerous on the attack. After creating chances it looked as though a goal was brewing.
Wilson-White’s ball was able to find Burridge on the edge of the box and once again showing her class, managed to fire it into the back of the net.
The last goal of the afternoon came twelve minutes after. United were awarded a penalty and the number 3 slotted the ball home to get her hattrick.
Before the final whistle was about to blow, Hinchcliffe who had previously came on for Dudley-Jones had the ball in the back of the net but the offside flag was up.
The other result in the semi final now means that Bridgwater will face Larkhall Athletic in the final where we will hope to pick up our first piece of silverware this season.
