BIRMINGHAM CITY WOMEN -
WHAT HAPPENED
Our perfect start to the 2021/22 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season came to an end on Sunday as we were beaten 2-0 by Birmingham City.
We came into this fixture at the top of the table and unbeaten in our last 18 league outings - but we left St Andrew’s knowing it was the hosts who deserved all three points for our poor defensive showing.
After failing to take control of the game early on, Birmingham looked to harm us on the break and with their first sight of goal, Libby Smith raced in behind our defence and coolly finished past Manuela Zinsberger.
It was the worst possible start for Jonas Eidevall’s side and things would go from bad to worse before the break too, as Veatriki Sarri fired home from close range to double Birmingham’s advantage.
We increased our intensity following the restart with Kim Little coming closest from a Vivianne Miedema cutback, but it was all too little too late, as we failed to create another clear-cut chance and were made to pay for our sloppy passing.
WHAT IT MEANS
WHAT’S NEXT
We have the chance to return to winning ways on Sunday when we host Reading in the Women’s Super League.
The game will take place at Meadow Park with kick-off at 2.30pm (UK time).
