Bideford A.F.C vs Willand Rovers FC
Match Report
Rovers start 2022 with a comfortable 4-0 victory at Bideford AFC!
Willand did not take long to shake off the after effects of the Parkway game and collected all three points and four goals on new year’s day at a largely dispirited Bideford writes Kerry Miller.
Rovers’ young and lively attack were often too much for the home side who were themselves reeling after losing at tailed off Barnstaple Town on Monday and with available again Noah Coppin looking hungry it was no real surprise when they took the lead on 12 minutes.
By then Coppin had fired his first chance over the bar in response to wingman Conor Hartley bringing a comfortable save from George Burton and the youngster, who has switched his dual registration from Taunton Town and Ashton and Backwell United, looked a threat when ever the ball reached the right wing.
However, Jack Rice-Lethaby’s skill on the half way line created enough room and time to send Coppin through and his finish from an angle proved the recent suspension had done nothing to blunt his scoring ability. Hartley again tested Burton then Niall Heeney twice went close around the half hour mark but the home attacks had little in the way of penetration and Willand pounced twice just before the break to seal the deal with more than half the game to play.
Will Richards set Ben Griffith away and he strode through to double the lead with a classy finish on 41 minutes and bang on the break Coppin robbed a defender and netted to make it three.
Bideford began with a strong spell but it soon petered out and a double substitution saw the end of Hartley and from then it was a case of how many for Rovers. Minutes later, on the hour it was four as Rice-Lethaby twisted the home defence inside out before hammering a shot past Adam Seedhouse-Evans.
Other than a double save by the home keeper to deny Bailey Kempster the game drifted as the heavy pitch and previous festive excesses began to take their toll and Rovers began the new year in direct contrast to how they ended the last one.
