Ladies bounce back with big win over Bideford

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies ended a four game winless stretch as they brushed aside South West Regional Women's Football League Premier Division basement dwellers Bideford 18-0.

Six different scorers found the net as Bassett racked up nine goals in both halves against a Robins side who they had already beaten 14-0 earlier this season.

Bassett's goals came in waves with Bideford, who to their credit again battled to the end, able to resist the pressure they were put under only for short periods.

It was 4-0 after just ten minutes, with Lani Dickinson scoring in the opening minute and again on nine minutes, with her second sandwiched between two goals for leading scorer Libby Davies.

After a brief period of respite, Bassett added three more, Davies taking her tally for the afternoon to four, with youngster Poppy Wannell making it 7-0 in the game's 24th minute.

Dickinson and Ellie O'Nions then completed the scoring for the opening period.

Just as in the first half, Bassett netted in the opening minute of the second period as Davies registered her fifth.

The score was not added to for the next quarter of an hour, but that interlude was interrupted by Aly Lyons kicking off a run off three goals in six minutes. Her first was followed by Dickinson's fourth, before Lyons notched her second and her team's thirteenth.

A final flurry came in the game's final eleven minutes as Bassett added a handful more.

Hannah Gulliver scored for the first time since September, Davies netted her sixth, Dickinson her fifth, while Wannell registered twice more to seal her hat trick.

While a welcome boost to their goal difference, Bassett know that much tougher tests await in their final four games of the campaign. That final stretch includes two fixtures against Torquay United, beginning with the away contest against the Gulls next week.
