From the Arsenal website:
LONDON CITY LIONESSES -
WHAT HAPPENED
Vivianne Miedema was on target as we booked our place in the last-16 of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over London City Lionesses on Sunday.
Despite having a number of key players unavailable for selection, Jonas Eidevall named a strong starting XI with four promising academy talents on the bench.
As expected, we dominated possession from the off and Nikita Parris had two early chances, first firing over the bar from Miedema’s delivery, before forcing Shae Yanez into a difficult low save.
Yanez then went on to produce another outstanding save just moments later, tipping Beth Mead’s curling effort just over the bar.
We looked set to head in at the break with the scores even, but as London City looked to play out of defence, Kim Little regained possession high up the pitch and skipped past her marker before slipping through Miedema, who made no mistake in finding the bottom corner.
We went on to create a host of chances in the second half with Mead coming closest with another audacious strike from distance on her weak foot, but despite our best efforts, we were unable to convert a second with the visitors holding their defensive shape admirably.
WHAT’S NEXT
Up next, we will host Manchester United in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League on Saturday, February 5.
The game will take place at Meadow Park with kick-off at 12.30pm (UK time).
