Brief Summary

My teams:

The weekend got off to the worst possible start as Arsenal lost to long time rivals and antagonists Manchester United. To be fair they did deserve their victory and I cannot take away from them the excellent quality of their defence. Two solid banks of four showed Arsenal exactly how to defend against a better team. I have NEVER seen Arsenal line up with two banks of four. .... thinks ..... We did do it once against Barcelona and it worked. They struggled against us. Perhaps we should try that again as defensive coach is clearly a weakness at Arsenal. Pat Rice was not as culpable as we thought at the time because Steve Bould has certainly not made us a solid outfit.

Arsenal 1 Manchester United 3

Brentford are away at Barnet on Monday night in the F.A.Cup. More about them on Tuesday.

Southend United took on Luton at home and went down to a defeat by one goal to nil. Well done Luton.

Southend 0 Luton 1

Exeter took on Cambridge at home and managed a 1-0 win.

Exeter 1 Cambridge United 0

Eastleigh travelled to Bromley and continued the trend of narrow victories by a single goal.

Bromley 0 Eastleigh 1

Weston-super-Mare must be celebrating in the streets as in a season of defeat after defeat the club got a very rare win under their belts. This was a win by more than one goal so a red letter day for the seagulls.

Weston-super-Mare 2 Slough Town 0

The Southern League teams both managed a two all draw. One at home and one away.

Tiverton Town 2 Merthyr Town 2
Slimbridge 2 Barnstaple Town 2

Buckland Athletic travelled to Bristol (where the Western League lives most of the time) to take on Odd Down and managed a victory.

Odd Down 0 Buckland Athletic 2

Exmouth gained another home win with an impressive victory.

Exmouth Town 4 Launceston 0

Bonus: At level 11 in the South West Peninsula League Division One East Elmore Eagles travelled all the way up to Ilfracombe on the north coast and managed another good win to keep their promotion hopes on track.

Ilfracombe Town 2 Elmore Eagles 5

My fixture list tells me that after Barnet v. Brentford on Monday we can look forward to another Premier League match with Arsenal v. Cardiff on Tuesday.

Have a good day YOU.
