WSL highlights: Arsenal Women 1-2 Manchester City Women

Manchester City reignited their Women's Super League title chase and dented Arsenal's hopes as Lauren Hemp's header earned victory at Meadow Park.

Ellen White's stunning shot from Chloe Kelly's cross put the visitors ahead.

Arsenal levelled when Jill Roord teed up Caitlin Foord on the counter-attack.

But Hemp's winner, from another Kelly cross, ensured City took advantage of shock defeats for Manchester United - by Reading - and Chelsea at Brighton, to move two points off the top.

Manchester City remain third and are now seven points clear of the Gunners, although the Londoners have a game in hand.

City themselves have a game in hand on second-placed Manchester United and are now firmly back in the title race after an impressive attacking display inspired by England trio White, Hemp and Kelly.

Kelly's pace, dribbling ability and vision stood out and her fine pass set up White to crash home her eighth goal of the season for a lead at the break in a half of few chances.

Vivianne Miedema provided Arsenal's main threat but uncharacteristically wasted several promising situations, before Roord's calm finish made it 1-1.

City remained on top, however, with White hitting the post with a low shot and Arsenal somehow scrambling the ball off the line after an almighty melee.

And Kelly's quality told as she burst down the right flank and found Hemp, who guided home a fabulous winner.
